SYNOPSIS

Set in the vibrant, bohemian East Village of New York City, RENT follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this iconic rock musical is a powerful, life-affirming story about falling in love, finding your voice, and living for today. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Bohème, Jonathan Larson’s RENT explores the complexities of modern life, friendship, and artistic resilience through an unforgettable, high-energy score.

REHEARSED READINGS

What is a Rehearsed Reading?

Rehearsed Readings are a unique way to experience a theatrical piece for a reduced price in a relaxed, cabaret-style setting. Unlike our full-scale productions, these readings feature minimal set, lighting, props, costumes, and sound effects. Actors perform with a script in hand and have typically rehearsed just a few times.

It's a chance for our community to explore a play in its early stages. These readings are sometimes later transferred to a larger venue for a full production, but that is not always the case.

Event Details

Our venues typically have space for 40-50 people, so tickets sell out quickly! All venues offer a small selection of drinks, and some also offer small snacks. Your seat might be at a small table.

  • General Admission: All rehearsed readings are 'general admission,' which means seats cannot be selected at the time of booking and are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Start Time: Rehearsed readings typically start slightly earlier than our full-scale productions, so check the specific details for the show to make sure you're on time! Doors usually open 30 minutes before the start time.

  • Tickets: Our venues vary. Please check the information above for ticket details, locations, and availability.

Support ZEST

As a volunteer-run organisation, our Rehearsed Readings are a wonderful opportunity to support ZEST and our mission to bring English theatre to Zurich. By becoming a ZEST member, you help make these kinds of events possible and gain access to special performances.
